I mentioned Grey reaching some milestones in my last post... I'm going to chronicle them a little bit because someday this will be a keepsake journal for me to remember the early days of Greyson's life. It may be a little boring if you're not obsessed with this baby like I am!
A week or two ago, Grey started really enjoying the fishies in his aquarium swing. I put him in the swing and turned it on with the fish mobile going, and he started watching the fishies swim. Now he's really good at tracking them as they circle above his head. Last night when he was keeping me up in the middle of the night, I put him in the swing in a dark room, but there's a light above his head where the fishies are, and I enjoyed 7 minutes of silence while he sat mesmerized in the glow of the fish lights.
Last week Mike was holding Grey while I made dinner. He was cooing and talking to the baby and got really excited and said he got a big open-mouthed smile - while Grey was awake! We've had lots of sweet smiles while Grey sleeps, but nothing conscious yet. My folks came to visit last Saturday and they swore he was smiling at them too. You've never seen anyone more excited than when my mom got her first smile. But I was still in the dark - no smiles for Mom. I wondered if we had different ideas of what smiling is... until today! Today Grey is making up for a bad night last night, because he's giving me smiles left and right. Real smiles :-)
And finally, since Grey's grandpa was here and wanted to bond with the baby by feeding him, I got my first breast pump. Exciting, I know. I'm keeping my breastfeeder of the year award, I pumped 4 oz in 5 minutes with a manual pump. No wonder I've got such a little piglet. Anyways, Grandpa Frank got to give Greyson his first bottle, which went fairly well. Mike tried again the next day, but Grey's still getting used to the idea of a bottle nipple. I think more of the milk ended up spilling down his chin. We'll work on that.
So... I'm exhausted after a long night. Grey finally went to sleep at 2am, it was the first time I almost lost some patience with him. But he slept until 7:30, and then again until 11. I don't think Daddy got enough sleep, but I hope to make up with a little nap this afternoon. It's a good thing I've got those baby smiles to keep me going.
