Whew! It's been a busy week. Greyson is napping (snoring right next to me) so I'll try to recap our holidays before he wakes up. After our trip to Target last week, we were feeling good and venturing out more and more. Wednesday we went to Costco, visited some friends and saw Dad at work, and had lunch outside Tijuana Flats. We were both exhausted after that! Thursday we went to my 6 week checkup and Walgreens, and Friday we had a cranky day at home getting ready for our big trip.
Friday night was Grey's worst night yet. He kept me up until almost 3am before finally falling asleep on the couch. Poor Dad was tired from a long week at work and his snoring only made me angry that I wasn't sleeping - I know it's irrational but when he snores it's as if he's taunting me while I'm up with the baby! Thank goodness he's a good sport when I holler at him to quit snoring.
Saturday Mike let Grey and I sleep in since we were up half the night, and we got on the road to Venice around noon. Once we got to Grandma Jo and Grandpa's house, Mike and I sat back and watched as they oohed and aahed and cooed and made goofy faces at the baby for a while. I wish I had my video camera out then... they are quite enamored with the little guy. We went to visit the great-grandparents and had a nice quiet family dinner. Then the holiday madness began. Mom cooked all weekend, we did more gift shopping and grocery shopping, and wrapped presents and awaited packages all weekend. We ate cookies and pies, turkey and ham, drank sparkling grape juice, and wished it felt like Christmas outside. These 80 degree holidays are getting to me!
Some big milestones and firsts from the long holiday weekend: Mike and I went out together to run errands, without Greyson! Grandma and Grandpa make good babysitters :-) Greyson went to the beach! It was cool and he was a little cranky, but we went down for the sunset on Sunday. Greyson went to the bank to meet Grandma Jo's coworkers. And most importantly, Greyson slept in his own bed (the pack and play) all three nights. And once we got home we were able to continue the trend! We'll keep him in our room for a while, but I think we may have convinced him that he doesn't have to sleep in between us in bed.
After all of the gifts and being spoiled by the grandparents and Jenny (my sister-in-law), we returned home on Christmas to see Mike's family. We spent some time at his sister's house with Grey's aunts, uncles, and cousin. Then we spent our Christmas evening at the hospital with Chuck and Dyann and their new daughter, Veronica. She is almost the same size that Grey was when he was born (she's 7lbs, 10oz, 19 inches) but she seems miniature. I can't believe Grey was ever that small! We posed them together and took goofy pictures, I hope they will be friends for a long time and we can show them those photos when they are grown up.
Today we went to the grocery store, and Greyson was a champ, no fussing or whining for sugar cereals or anything ;-) I guess it's back to our normal life for a while. We're still figuring out our New Year's plans - but I think Grey might be about to attend his first party!
