Every day Greyson does something that I should write down. How many times have I said "where's the camera!?" in the past year? Countless. More often than not, the event goes unrecorded, except in my head. I have thought about this blog and looked at my last posting so many times, wondering if the guilt is worth it. If I just quit, it wouldn't be on my never-ending to-do list anymore. But then I also wouldn't have this as a record of Greyson's accomplishments. I've already referred back to the blog to remember when he was doing something, or what he weighed at 6 months, etc.
So today I will share some of the little things he has done over the past few months that were note-worthy... literally. I keep a little notepad at my desk with ideas for blog posts. But work has been so busy and my home-life does not leave time for leisurely blog posting, so the notes usually just sit there. Today, I've got some free time!
Greyson's vocabulary is definitely exploding. He is putting two and three words together constantly. He knows more animal names than some adults, and he knows what most of those animals "say." His animal books are his constant companion in the car and I'm forever surprised when he announces the name of an animal that I don't remember teaching him. Like toucan! Some of my favorites are hyena and mongoose :-)
At school, I can tell the kids have been singing "rain rain go away..." because Greyson is picking it up. He surprised me the other day by singing almost the entire refrain (come again some other day), most of the words intact, or at least intelligible. He continues to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Little Lamb, also chiming in on lots of the rhyming words from other favorite songs.
Greyson is obsessed with a few special songs from Yo Gabba Gabba. Specifically the Aquabats song "Pool Party," the Supernova song "Up and Down," and the Aggrolites song "Banana." They are super cute kids songs with simple lyrics and catchy beats - most of them ska or reggae inspired. We fast-forward to those songs almost on a daily basis.
He's definitely learning his numbers, to go along with his colors and shapes (which are almost mastered). It's so cute to hear him lining up his toys and randomly numbering them. He especially likes the "eight, nine" sequence. I played a game with him last week where I counted to three and then we threw ourselves back onto the bed with a thud. I asked him to count with me and he tried his best. Then I asked him to do the counting and he demonstrated his affinity for odd numbers. Once he counted "five, seven, nine!" then "three, five seven." Impressive if not accurate.
OK, enough mommy-bragging for now. We have been very busy with our new family schedule (up by 6:30 every day) - unfortunately Greyson didn't get the memo that this does not apply to weekends. Occasionally he will sleep in if we keep him out late on the weekends, but that's a rare treat. We've had lots of visits from Greyson's Jo and Pops, both online and in person. We're headed to see them this weekend for some relaxing time at the beach. Hopefully that will inspire us to start taking more pictures! Happy Labor Day everyone.
