Last weekend was spent at Jo Grandma and Pop's house near the beach in southwest Florida. Greyson had been looking forward to the trip, he loves his Jo and Pops so much. Pops had made an emergency visit to stay with sick-Greyson the previous week, and Grey had been asking about him since he left.
The weekend was full of fun, food, sun, water, and more good food. We visited G's great-grandparents and let them see how wild he has become. We sang songs and Greyson sang along. We learned that he knows a lot of the words to his favorite books, but he usually is pacified by a bottle when we read them at bedtime.
The most fun was had at the beach, the fountains, and the playground. We tried visiting a new beach in the morning, so the waves would be calmer. This beach is very shallow for quite a distance, so Greyson was able to walk out with us. We floated and "swam" for a long time, the whole family enjoying the best beach yet. He played with his buckets and shovels, getting everyone coated in sand, necessitating another swim before we left for the day.
The following day we visited the fountain in downtown where kids, parents, and grandparents are all welcome to splash about. He was not at his best, but still enjoyed himself running through the water. Finally on our last morning, we visited the neighborhood playground, where Greyson learned to climb a ladder, and demonstrated this skill much to our surprise and chagrin while I was having a nice chat with my mom. Next thing we knew he was up and almost over! He took a turn on the big kid swing and had a nice romp in the shade.
As is the custom on family visits, we ate lots of good food. Greyson couldn't get enough of Jo's beer-can chicken and even tried some corn on the cob again. Of course the desserts were his favorite. Mike and I were able to get away for some Thai food one night while Grey feasted on spaghetti and meatballs - a LOT of meatballs according to my parents!
It's always a joy to see Greyson with his grandparents, they all love each other so much. It's difficult to leave and explain why he can't see his Jo and Pops the next day. But we will see them in Buffalo in just two weeks. Wish us safe travels.
