I spoke too soon. Just days after my last post, I fell ill. Then it was Mike's turn. Turns out there's a rather graphic descriptive name for what has recently befallen our little family, but I'll spare you those details. We had the same thing last year, and spread it to my extended family in Venice on a trip to see my Dad for his birthday. This year we kept our germs to ourselves and celebrated Pop's birthday by giving him some Southern Comfort, not Winter Vomiting Disease. Oops, I wasn't supposed to share that... but c'mon, with a name like that how could I keep it to myself!?
After a slow start (several errands and a trip to the tire store to patch a flat), we got to Venice Friday afternoon. After greeting Pops and Betty the bird, we were off to the beach where it was so windy we had to seek shelter behind the life guard stand. Greyson was undeterred and spent a nice afternoon chasing seagulls and playing with his dump truck in the sand. Mike and I had a rare evening out together while Grey stayed home with Pops and Jo. That made up for our anniversary dinner that was cancelled due to the aforementioned virus.
Saturday was a gloomy rainy day spent mostly indoors, and it was a very rare no-nap day. He just refused, probably because we were not at home in his usual routine. He did sneak in a doze on the way to the restaurant to celebrate Pop's birthday. It was our most relaxed meal out, because he was cuddly and still sleepy until the food came, then he chowed down. He may be picky, but the boy can eat!
Sunday we were up and going early, visiting the caboose at the historic train station, then a playground where Greyson wanted to swing all day. He had a pretty spectacular crash off the swing (or maybe it was my reaction that was spectacular?) and was ready to get right back on. I commented out loud that he wanted to get back on the horse and then he was looking around for a horse to ride! Instead, we were off to the jetty, to get splashed by the big waves.
It was a wonderful weekend spent with Greyson's grandparents. And knock wood, we're all healthy today.
