This pregnancy is progressing much like the last (no major problems, save the darned gestational diabetes), except it is much less documented. I feel a little bit of that mom guilt already, are we one of those families that has a baby book for the first child only? I haven't bought one for New Baby yet...
I also haven't taken any belly photos. That was one of the joys of my first pregnancy, and I still look back at those photos (to laugh, to compare, to show Greyson). I will admit, there might be a few blurry cell phone shots of me in a bikini from this weekend's party, but nothing I'll be saving or posting or sharing! Come to think of it, I probably haven't posted any new photos of Greyson lately, Mike even had to ask me where the camera was this weekend. So, I guess before too long I ought to take a few photos of my growing self. Especially since I'm now so round that strangers comment on my readiness to "pop" in public. And yet, I have gained much less weight this time around - and I think I'll max out a few pounds lighter than I was with G. I'll comfort myself with the delusion that I'm "all belly" as they say.
The point of this post was to update on all the parties and showers and festivities of the past week or so. I have been spoiled, and I have been injured, but overall it has been a fun ride! Things started off at work with a department luncheon where many of my colleagues brought in diapers for me. I love it! I didn't want a work "shower" because my co-workers were so generous the last time around and we really don't need much now. But diapers! Everyone can use diapers! I ended up carting home over 600 diapers and 300 wipes, everything from size 1 to 4. Brilliant idea and much appreciated.
On Friday, my department took me to lunch, so I got to splurge on one of my favorite restaurants and overdo it a little bit on the diet. Not only was I well fed, but my girls got me gifts and gift cards, and spoiled me rotten. Part of the spoiling was necessary because Thursday night I broke my pinky toe. I wrenched it back on something (G's foot?) and certainly felt it happen, but didn't realize how bad it was until I looked down a few minutes later and my whole foot was swollen with the pinky toe pointing out at a funny angle. I hobbled around a bit, fretted over going to the doctor or just getting on with life. Got different opinions from family members, had a neighbor (a nurse) tug on the toe to see if he could get it back in place, and finally drove to the urgent care clinic only to find a 2 hour wait to see a doctor. I gave up and made an appointment for early Friday morning.
After x-rays determined it was quite a fracture, I was fitted with a cute little fracture shoe (that was sarcasm if you didn't smell it) and my toes were "buddy taped" together. I was advised to see an orthopaedist to make sure it healed correctly and sent on my way. Later that afternoon I saw a specialist who offered me a few options: keep it taped and see how it healed, get a shot of lidocaine and reset it, or skip the lidocaine and reset it. I opted for the path of least resistance, am letting it heal up while taped to the next toe, and if it still looks wonky this week when I go back they can re-set it then.
So, here I am waddling around and now limping on my funny shoe. 34 weeks pregnant is not the best time to injure your foot, pinky toe or otherwise!
On Saturday after taking Greyson to the playground, my girls came over and we had a little baby lunch. It was catered by TooJays and there was SO MUCH FOOD that we served it again at our evening party and still had leftovers! We gossiped and ate, opened presents and told stories about our pregnant and post-partum bodies that really freaked out poor Amy, the only not-yet-mother amongst us.
After Greyson and Mike came home from the neighbor's birthday party, I trekked across town to Joann's to buy fabric for the baby room curtains. So much for staying off my feet. Once home, I got ready for the big party that evening which turned out to be one of our best yet. The kids were wild but there were only a few of them. Some left after dinner, some slept on the couch, G was asleep by 10:30 and little Veronica was the trooper who made it through the whole party! I fell off the diet wagon and had a brownie and slice of cake and even a little gatorade. My doctors seemed to understand - it's not that I can't control my blood sugar with diet, it's that I didn't!
So, now we're fully partied out, I think. I have one more big weekend of festivities planned in May for a friend's wedding, and then this baby can come whenever he's ready! Wait, I guess I need to get his room ready, and his carseat, and take a few photos, and ...
let the nesting begin!
