A Day at the Beach

We're in the final countdown... I go back to work in one week. Getting myself prepared, getting Greyson prepared, getting Auntie Jenny prepared. It's a lot of work, mentally.

We had a nice trip to Venice last weekend. Saw relatives, introduced Greyson to more of the family, had a nice picnic at the beach. Greyson napped in the shade, it was really lovely. It was a lot of work to get there and back, but it was worth it. I enjoyed my "time off" while everyone else enjoyed the baby, sometimes I feel guilty about that but remind myself he's still my full time job for now and I get vacations too. I played wii and had to apologize for my karaoke version of love shack. Apparently Greyson tasted beer unbeknownst to me. Maybe I shouldn't write that here.

We're finally going to start the solid foods this weekend, although Greyson had some dirt at the beach and tasted some of the menu at dinner last night (literally, the menu itself!). Geez, maybe I shouldn't write that either, the bad mom police will be after me pronto. Greyson is getting more and more hair back after he lost most of what he was born with. His new hair is blond, maybe even blonder than before, and fuzzy like a bunny. He's rolling over constantly, we play on the floor a lot. And he's creeping and getting close to crawling, although I hear that can last a long time, the "almost crawling" phase.

I guess it's time for our walk, that's the only way I'm going to get an afternoon nap out of this booger. Oh, and his latest trick is courtesy of his Jo Gramma and her constant repetition over the weekend - sticking his tongue out. Too cute.

Creepy Crawly

I was chastised today by Jo Grandma for not posting in a while. We've been busy and Grey still doesn't have a good nap routine going... so I've been neglecting my duties here. This morning he slept (not in my lap!) for over two hours and I felt like superwoman, I got so much done around the house!

Today it's only in the 60's. A fluke late "cold" snap, we'll have lows in the 40's tonight. Greyson and I went for a nice long walk to enjoy the weather. Soon it'll be in the 90's and too warm to walk during most of the day. Our new stroller will be cooler and have ventilation, but for now we're still using the infant car seat and that can get sweaty for the little guy.

Yesterday Auntie Jenny came over for a practice session and I ran some errands. I left Greyson with a bottle of milk and went on my merry way. I guess the bottle feeding didn't go over well, but we worked on that and I'm confident that he'll eat while I'm at work. Some babies do a "reverse cycle" where they fast during the day when mom's at work and then want to nurse all night long when she's home. Let's hope it doesn't come to that! Grey loves his mommy milk, so he'll just have to learn to love it from a bottle for a while.

Meanwhile I've been doing my baby food research and I'm excited to start him on solid foods (cereal and fruit and veggies) soon! I'm getting advice and recipes and getting ready. Mike can't wait, and it should be pretty fun just to see his reactions.

Greyson is now officially Creepy. When he's on the bed or floor (or anywhere really) he now rolls from front to back with abandon. He scoots and rolls around and tries to get out of any crib or swing or stroller or seat he's in. Ah, the beginning of the end (of my sweet immobile baby)!

We're having a quiet week, in preparation for a big weekend. We'll go visit my parents and Grey will meet some of his Great Aunts and Uncles. They're just my plain old aunts and uncles, I don't know what makes them so Great to Greyson ;-) We'll have a nice beach picnic and celebrate Nana and Grampa's 60-something th Anniversary. Something to aspire to!

What's new with Greyson

This week Grey learned to punch, or bang his fist. He learned to pet the cat, and hold paws with him. He learned to stick his tongue out. He loves to be thrown into the air, to fly like superbaby, and to be startled. His favorite game is peekaboo. When you roll him onto his tummy he doesn't usually move forward, instead he spins in a circle on the bed. Mike says his rudder is stuck. Now that he has mastered the raspberry, he has a new ambition to make a silly noise, but I can't even describe that noise in words. It involves sticking the tongue out, so he's well on his way!

Greyson will be five months old next week. I thought it was amazing that I grew a human being inside myself, but it's more amazing that I can sustain this ever-changing, learning, wonderful miracle grow baby. No wonder I'm always hungry!
